Walter Denny

Mr. Denny is Chief Executive Officer of Barksdale Management Corporation, the investment management and family office entity for James L. Barksdale. He joined with Mr. Barksdale in 1996, and has worked exclusively in that position since that time.

Walter began his professional career upon his graduation from the University of Mississippi in 1957 with a BBA degree with a major in accounting. At that time he joined the tax department of the Houston, Texas office of Arthur Andersen & Co. In 1960 he opened his own CPA practice in his home city of Jackson, Mississippi. Through internal growth and one merger he led the firm as Managing Partner and Partner in Charge of the Tax and the Management Services Departments. When he retired from the firm, then known as DeMiller, Denny & Word, in 1981, it was the largest CPA firm in the state of Mississippi. Denny's particular areas of expertise were oil and gas taxation, mergers and acquisitions, purchase and sale transactions, and business systems management. He lectured from time to time on tax matters. He also was among the early developers of computer programs, software and accounting systems for small businesses in the days during which such tools were not readily available to small businesses.

Between 1981 and 1996, his background included management of an independent oil and gas exploration and production company, and consulting in the fields of oil and gas and other businesses.

Walter and Peggy Denny have been married for 52 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren. They are active in the Presbyterian Church in America and other civic and social affairs in the Jackson area.
